There were also walls specially constructed to separate the residential areas from each other, and watchtowers built approximately every twenty-five meters along the outer walls. The history of these walls dates back to ancient times when the Romans built on Hellenic foundations. These walls were later expanded and repaired during the Seljuk period. Many stone blocks containing ancient inscriptions were used, and the walls were well preserved until the 19th century. Today, several remains of walls and towers, Hadrian&#39;s Gate, the Clock Tower and the Hıdırlık Tower can still be seen. Today, the ancient city center is surrounded by the sea and the walls remaining on land are called Kalei&ccedil;i. The streets and buildings still bear traces of Antalya&#39;s history. The characteristics of the old houses tell an architectural tale, but they also reflect the social life, traditions and habits of the inhabitants of old Antalya, and provide us with valuable information about the city&#39;s history. The streets of the Old City are narrow and slope down from the harbour towards the centre. Some of the interesting historical sites to visit in the Old City include the Kesik Minaret, Yivli Minaret, Keyh&uuml;srev Madrasah, Karatay Madrasah, İskele Mosque, Tekeli Mehmet Pasha Mosque and various ancient chapels, most notably the St. George Church, which has been beautifully restored by the Suna-İnan Kıra&ccedil; Foundation. The presence of churches in the Old City reflects the region&rsquo;s recent history of different religions. In the 19th century, there were many Greek and Armenian residents living and trading peacefully alongside Turkish residents. The Old City owes its unique atmosphere to this multicultural history. However, according to some, Perge was founded by the Mopsus and Calchas dynasties in the 13th century BC. The architectural splendor of Perge, which was invaded by Alexander the Great, is actually a living proof of the Hellenistic period. After this, the region became the land of the prosperous Roman Empire for the first three centuries AD. With the advent and spread of Christianity, Perge played an important and active role in the spread of this religion. As Roman rule gradually weakened, Perge was invaded by the Byzantines. This magnificent city experienced its golden age during the Roman period when trade flourished. According to tradition, the city was founded by the famous Greek prophet Mopsos in 1000 BC, and archaeologists have found evidence of settlement in the region since the Hittite era (800 BC). Similar to the nearby towns of Perge and Side, the city&#39;s decline was the result of silt accumulation in the port and the centralization policies of the Byzantine Empire. With the Seljuk rule over this region of Turkey, Aspendos&#39; once magnificent theater was used only as a caravanserai. The Aspendos theater is one of the largest theaters built by the Romans in Anatolia and is today one of the best-preserved examples of Roman theater architecture. Located on the lower side of the city, the theater was built during the reign of Marcus Aurelius in the 2nd century AD. The theatre, which has a huge seating plan, can accommodate 15,000 to 20,000 spectators. First of all, to reach Termessos, you need to climb an altitude of 1000 meters towards the Taurus Mountains. The difficulties that this journey brings are somewhat relieved by the view of this ancient theater, which is considered to have the most ideal location among similar ancient structures in Turkey. Secondly, this Eagle&#39;s Nest, as Alexander the Great called Termessos, is located in a National Park area, far from crowded tourist visits, in a geographical texture with a pine forest and rare plant species, containing the remains of ancient structures. Termessos is an attractive region covered in the mystery of legends. Many travelers and researchers have visited here. The most famous of these is Karol Lanckoroński, a Polish researcher who visited this region at the end of the 19th century and worked on Pamphylia. The ski resort is geographically part of the Taurus Mountains. Saklıkent Antalya Ski Resort is a developing area that you can reach by car or by cable car from sea level. However, in order to fully experience it, a comprehensive knowledge of prehistory and a vivid imagination are required. This cave, close to Antalya, has been inhabited continuously by the ancestors of modern humans for at least 25 thousand years and is the largest cave in Turkey with traces of prehistoric human activity. The oldest traces of human presence discovered in Karain Cave date back to approximately 200 thousand years ago, to the early Paleolithic Age. Fragments of the skull of Homo Neanderthal humans from this period were found in the cave. Researchers have confirmed that human presence in the cave continued for more than 25 thousand years, throughout the Middle Paleolithic, Paleolithic, Paleolithic and Bronze Age. At least the upper waterfall, which is about 12 km from the coast, is not yet very well known. The park area around the waterfall is a shady and cool place. It is like a tropical oasis decorated with cascading waterfalls where you can listen to the birdsong in a tranquil and very special atmosphere that cannot be found anywhere else in the city. You can probably imagine how liberating it is to come to the waterfalls on a hectic, hot, sticky summer day and then enter this cool park with a completely different atmosphere and clean air, where time seems to have stopped.
